Summary
KPV is a lysine-proline-valine tripeptide corresponding to the C-terminal fragment of alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone. As a three-residue synthesis it is inexpensive to make, and the price per gram quoted reflects purification and packaging far more than synthesis.
The short sequence means salt and water fractions dominate the mass balance. Lots quoted at high HPLC purity frequently carry counterion fractions above ten percent, which changes the true cost per active gram substantially.
